APPLE CIDER VINEGAR WITH OREGANO – AN AID TO BIRD HEALTH MANAGEMENT AND WELLBEING

Applied Cider Vinegar (ACV) has been used as an aid to both human and bird health.  It has been promoted by numerous veterinarians over the years as a means of increasing the acidity (lowering the pH) of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) which in turn improves the acidic environment of the upper part of the GIT. Many enzymes (Pepsin) in the proventriculus are activated at a low pH. The feed/food that is eaten in many instances acts as a buffer encouraging the pH to rise. ACV helps to keep the pH down. SEED SELECTION BY ZEBRA FINCHES

Sound nutrition is about adequate nutrient delivery to birds daily according to their physiological needs at the time. It is about knowing what nutrients are needed and the amount being delivered to each bird daily to maintain its health, wellbeing, and reproduction. The ingredients we feed are a means to an end. Feed ingredients are packets of nutrients which can be combined in numerous ways to meet the bird’s daily nutrient requirements. However, birds have preferences for certain ingredients, and this must be considered when choosing ingredients to be included in their daily diet. Choosing ingredients that contain components suitable...

Feeding the High-Performance Racing Pigeon

The high-performance Racing Pigeon needs three major situations to operate if it has any chance of winning races in this highly competitive sport. These are:  Providing well balanced nutrition. Providing a source of energy is important for racing pigeons and this are provided from the grain mixes that are fed. Unlocking the energy from digestible carbohydrates (sugar and starch) and from fat in the oilseeds and other feed components is important. Minimising the adverse effects of indigestible and anti-nutritional carbohydrates sources (such as the non-starch polysaccharides) is also...
